For a design project at the Florence Institute of Design we were asked to design a lighting system. The inspiration source I chose is a DNA string. These beautiful helix shaped natural constructions could form an ideal base for a lighting system.
I thought about a table or floor lamp where the parts connecting the two helixes could be tubes in which a LED string is placed. By making it possible to turn the tubes, the lights can be orientated in different ways to create a multipurpose lighting piece.

The LED tubes have a thin vertical grove where the light can pass through.

The LED tubes can be turned to point the light in different directions.

The LED driver is located in the base with the wire coming out on the side.
